Igbo Group Accuses Fayose of Meddling in Oyo Politics, Rallies Support for Makinde

A group under the aegis of the Association of Igbo Residents in Ibadan has accused former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, of interfering in Oyo State politics, alleging that his recent actions and comments are capable of generating unnecessary tension.

Speaking at a press conference in Ibadan on Saturday, the group criticised what it described as attempts to import external political conflicts into the state, warning that such moves could disrupt the relative peace being enjoyed under Governor Seyi Makinde.

The association also raised concerns over alleged alliances involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, claiming that such collaborations were aimed at undermining the current administration, particularly through issues linked to the Olubadan stool.

Describing the traditional institution as sacred, the group cautioned political actors against dragging the Olubadan stool into partisan disputes, stressing that it must remain above political manipulation.

The group took issue with Fayose’s recent remarks about Governor Makinde, including comments made in Abuja and during a visit to Ibadan, where he reportedly criticised the governor’s leadership. It questioned his involvement in Oyo’s political process, noting that he neither holds office in the state nor has a direct stake in its governance.

According to the association, the emergence of candidates within political parties is guided by established legal frameworks, including consensus arrangements and primary elections, dismissing insinuations that due process was being compromised.

It also rejected speculations about an alleged impeachment plot against Governor Makinde, describing such claims as unfounded and politically motivated.

Highlighting the administration’s achievements, the group commended Makinde for strides in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development, as well as for fostering peace and inclusiveness across ethnic and religious lines.

The association urged residents of Oyo State to remain vigilant and not be swayed by what it termed politically motivated narratives, while calling on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rein in members whose statements could deepen divisions.

Reaffirming its position, the group declared its continued support for Governor Makinde, insisting that Oyo State’s political space should not be destabilised by external influences.
