Coalition of Oyo Youths Unveils BASE Movement for Adekanmbi

A coalition of youths in Oyo State has launched the Bimbo Adekanmbi Support for Excellence (BASE) Movement, a political and civic group aimed at mobilising support for the governorship aspiration of former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The movement, unveiled on Friday with the slogan ”#IAm4BASE,” said it seeks to promote excellence, integrity, inclusive governance, youth empowerment and sustainable development across the state.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Media and Publicity Secretary of the movement, Mr Akindele Alabi, said BASE was established to provide a platform for young people to actively participate in governance while supporting a leader they believe possesses the competence and experience to advance Oyo State’s development.

According to him, the initiative is intended to go beyond conventional political mobilisation by positioning youths as partners in governance, community development and innovation rather than merely campaign supporters.

Alabi said the movement was committed to supporting a governorship aspirant it believes has the leadership qualities, experience and capacity to sustain and build on the developmental strides recorded in the state.

He described BASE as a platform founded on the principles of inclusion, innovation, opportunity and public service, expressing confidence that Adekanmbi has the credentials to drive economic growth and accelerate development across Oyo State.

The spokesperson disclosed that the movement would embark on grassroots mobilisation, youth engagement programmes and public awareness campaigns across the state to encourage greater participation of young people in governance.

He maintained that meaningful youth involvement in governance would make government more responsive, inclusive and better equipped to address present and future challenges.

“We believe Bimbo Adekanmbi shares the aspirations of young people and has the capacity to translate those aspirations into practical governance. That is why we are mobilising youths across the state to identify with this movement,” Alabi said.

He added that registration for intending members would commence in due course, while details of the process would be announced later.

Alabi called on students, professionals, artisans, entrepreneurs, members of the Oyo diaspora and volunteers interested in community development to join the initiative through grassroots mobilisation, civic engagement and social media advocacy.

According to him, the movement is driven by the belief that “the future belongs to those who are prepared to build it. Together, we move the state forward.”

He said the objectives of the movement include encouraging youth participation in governance, creating a stronger link between young people and political leadership, nurturing emerging leaders, promoting volunteerism and innovation, and projecting Adekanmbi as a leader committed to addressing the aspirations of the younger generation.

The coordinators said the inauguration of the BASE Movement marks the commencement of a statewide mobilisation campaign in support of Adekanmbi’s political vision ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
