Oyo Ohanaeze Ndigbo backs Adekanmbi for 2027 Governorship …Calls for unity, inclusion, peaceful coexistence

The Oyo State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has declared its support for the governorship ambition of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate, Hon. Abimbola “Bimbo” Adekanmbi, ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

The declaration was made during a gathering of members and stakeholders of the Igbo community in Oyo State, where speakers stressed the need for unity, peaceful coexistence and active participation in the political process.

The event also provided a platform for political leaders and community representatives to discuss the role of the Igbo community in the development of Oyo State and the need for greater inclusion in governance.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akinsola Akintayo, who attended the gathering, called for continued support for the political direction of the APM.

Akintayo urged the people to support the presidential aspiration of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as well as the governorship candidacy of Adekanmbi and other candidates of the party.

He said continued cooperation among the various communities in the state was necessary to sustain peaceful coexistence and promote development.

Also speaking, Adekanmbi assured the gathering that his administration, if elected, would operate an inclusive government where people from different ethnic, religious and social backgrounds would have a sense of belonging.

He said: “We must build an Oyo State where everyone, regardless of where they come from, has a place and a voice.

“Unity, cooperation and equal participation are important if we are to achieve the prosperous Oyo State that we all desire.”

Adekanmbi said his administration would recognise the contributions of different communities to the growth and development of the state, stressing that no group should feel excluded from the affairs of government.

The APM candidate emerged as the party’s consensus governorship candidate in May 2026 and has since continued consultations and engagements with communities and stakeholder groups across the state.

Issues of inclusive governance, continuity, unity and development have featured prominently in his engagements with various groups.

The gathering further highlighted the longstanding relationship between the Igbo community and the people of Oyo State, with participants calling for peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and collective efforts towards the development of the state.
