Makinde demonstrates commitment to Youth inclusion as Adekanmbi secures APM Governorship ticket — Falana

Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, has praised Governor ‘Seyi Makinde for standing by his commitment to promote younger leaders, following the emergence of Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi as the consensus governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 election.
Falana described Adekanmbi’s emergence as a strong indication of Governor Makinde’s dedication to generational leadership transition, youth empowerment and the deliberate grooming of competent young leaders for the future of Oyo State politics.
He recalled that Governor Makinde had, during a youth engagement programme last year, publicly declared that he would not support any governorship aspirant above the age of 50 to 52 years after the completion of his administration in 2027.
“I feel so old already. I came into this office at 51 and many people believed I was too young then. In fact, I became the youngest civilian governor to occupy the office in Oyo State at the age of 51.

“I made a promise on radio last December that by the time I leave office in 2027, God willing, I will not support anyone older than 50 to 52 years.”
Makinde also reaffirmed his commitment to mentoring and supporting emerging young leaders across Nigeria, assuring youths that they can always count on his guidance and support.
Reacting to Adekanmbi’s adoption as the party’s consensus candidate, Falana said the governor has once again demonstrated integrity and consistency by aligning his actions with his public promises.
He noted that supporting a youthful and visionary candidate like Adekanmbi sends a positive signal to young people across the state and encourages wider participation in governance and political leadership.
Falana further commended Governor Makinde for placing competence, continuity and vision above political interests, adding that such decisions continue to strengthen public trust in his leadership and democratic values.
During the consensus process, Governor Makinde expressed appreciation to the people of Oyo State for their continued support for his administration over the last seven years, attributing the successes recorded by his government to the cooperation and goodwill of residents.
The governor also urged the people of the state to rally behind Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi and support his ambition in the 2027 governorship election.
Makinde advised Adekanmbi to remain focused, purposeful and people-oriented, stressing that leadership should be built on unity, service and vision rather than bitterness or political rivalry.
Falana expressed confidence that Adekanmbi’s candidacy would open a fresh chapter of inclusive governance, youth-driven leadership and sustainable development in Oyo State.
