Makinde Declares Presidential Ambition, Unveils Political Alliance Ahead of 2027
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday intensified permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections as he declared his presidential ambition while unveiling a strategic alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Ibadan.
The declaration came during a high-profile Unity Mega Rally held at the historic Mapo Hall, where thousands of party loyalists, supporters and political stakeholders gathered in a major show of strength.
The rally followed the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the PDP and APM, supervised by Governor Makinde alongside the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle.
The agreement was earlier signed at the PDP South-West Secretariat, Soji Adagunodo House, along Old Ife Road in Ibadan, signalling a fresh political alignment ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Speaking at the rally, Makinde said the alliance was formed to deepen democracy, strengthen political participation and provide Nigerians with a credible alternative ahead of 2027.
The governor noted that the coalition was not created to attack or destroy any political platform, but to rebuild the country and restore public confidence in governance.
He lamented Nigeria’s declining influence within West Africa, stating that countries which once depended on Nigeria are now becoming destinations for Nigerians seeking better opportunities.
According to him, the development is unacceptable and requires urgent collective action from Nigerians through inclusive and people-oriented leadership.
Political observers believe the alliance could further strengthen Makinde’s influence within the South-West political landscape, while also positioning him as a major player ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
The event also fueled speculations over the governor’s possible succession plans in Oyo State, with many anticipating that he may soon unveil his preferred candidate for the state governorship election.
Top government officials, PDP stakeholders, and national and state leaders of the APM were present at the rally amid heightened political anticipation.
