City Boy Movement Eyes 1 Million Votes for Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Oyo

The Oyo state Coordinator of the City Boy movement, Chief Ahmed Ajibola, has revealed that the group has a target of getting one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in Oyo State in the coming general elections.

Ajibola who said this on Thursday during the maiden edition of the Tribune Discourse, organised by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Tribune Chapel, highlighted the growing role of grassroots movements in Nigeria’s democratic process, with a strong focus on youth engagement and political participation.

He noted that the group brings together stakeholders, youth advocates, and political actors, featuring the City Boy Movement a pro-government advocacy group promoting the political ideology and leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

The state coordinator of the group described the target as part of broader efforts to sustain progressive leadership and deepen grassroots political participation.

Ajibola said the City Boy Movement is a youth-driven initiative built on grassroots mobilisation and civic engagement, aligning with the ideals of the Not Too Young To Run Act.
According to Ajibola, the movement is inclusive and provides a platform for youths across different social strata to contribute to national development. He added that its core objective is to promote good governance, which he said is reflected in the policies of the Tinubu administration.
Highlighting some achievements of President Tinubu , he cited initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), aimed at expanding access to higher education, and low-interest funding opportunities through the Bank of Industry to support entrepreneurs and creatives.
While speaking on the increase in price of Petroleum Motor Spirits , Ajibola attributed the situation to global economic realities, stressing that the reforms being implemented are aimed at long-term national benefits. He maintained that Nigeria was in a fragile state before the current administration took office.
Speaking on taxation, he explained that ongoing reforms are designed to ease the burden on citizens, particularly low- and middle-income earners, with considerations for tax exemptions for those below certain income thresholds.
Responding to questions on funding of the group,Ajibola disclosed that the movement is sustained through member contributions and voluntary donations from supporters who believe in its mission.
He dismissed claims that the group is driven by personal gain or political patronage, insisting that its members are professionals and business leaders committed to national progress.
Ajibola also stressed the role of subnational governments in addressing security and infrastructure challenges, noting that such responsibilities should not rest solely on the Federal Government. He referenced existing legal frameworks that empower states to improve electricity supply and governance.
He commended the African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc , publishers of Tribune Titles for providing a platform to engage the public on the activities of the City Boy Movement.
He however urged young Nigerians to actively participate in governance rather than being just passive observers.
