BREAKING: Veteran Nollywood Actor Olu Jacobs Dies At 84

Veteran Nigerian actor, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

The celebrated Nollywood actor died on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, according to an announcement by his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their son.

The family described the late actor, fondly known as the “Lion of Lufodo,” as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

In a statement announcing his death, the family said, “It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo.

“Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs (MFR). 11/07/1942 – 16/09/2026.”

The family also appealed to bloggers and social media influencers to respect their privacy as they mourn the veteran actor.

“We call on all bloggers and social media influencers to respect our family’s privacy at this time,” the statement added.

Olu Jacobs, who celebrated his 84th birthday on July 11, was one of Nigeria’s most respected actors, with a career spanning several decades in theatre, television and film.

His death comes after years of recurring false reports about his passing, which had repeatedly been dismissed by members of his family.

Jacobs’ contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry earned him widespread recognition, including the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).

He is survived by his wife, Joke Silva, their children and grandchildren.
