Adeojo Hosts Oyo Committee on Small Arms, Illegal Immigration Sensitisation in Ido LG

The Executive Chairman of Ido Local Government, Hon. Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo, has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to strengthening community security as he hosted the Oyo State Committee on the Proliferation of Small Arms and Ammunition and Illegal Immigrants during its statewide sensitisation and stakeholders’ engagement programme.

The engagement, held in Ido Local Government, formed part of the committee’s tour of eight local government areas across Oyo State following the approval of Governor Seyi Makinde to embark on a sensitisation campaign aimed at addressing the proliferation of small arms and ammunition, combating illegal immigration and enhancing community-based security initiatives.

The stakeholders’ meeting brought together government officials, traditional and community leaders, as well as representatives of security agencies to deliberate on collaborative strategies for promoting peace, security and sustainable development within the local government.

The committee was led by retired Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration, Segun Adegoke, and comprised representatives of key security and law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, represented by ACP Bello on behalf of the Oyo State Commissioner of Police; the Department of State Services (DSS), represented by Mr. Mayaki; the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Addressing participants, Adeojo commended Governor Makinde for initiating the sensitisation campaign, describing it as a proactive measure towards safeguarding lives and property across the state.

He stressed that security remains a collective responsibility, urging residents of Ido Local Government to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies by providing credible intelligence, and support efforts aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal arms, drug-related crimes and unlawful migration.

The committee, in its presentation, highlighted the security threats posed by the unchecked spread of small arms and ammunition, illegal immigration and other related criminal activities. It also encouraged members of the public to strengthen intelligence-sharing with security agencies while fostering peaceful coexistence in their communities.

The engagement concluded with an interactive session during which stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Oyo State Government and relevant security agencies to sustain peace, strengthen community policing and ensure a safer environment for residents of Ido Local Government.
