Alli Declares 2027 Oyo Governorship Bid, Promises Inclusive Growth and People-Centered Leadership

Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli on Friday formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, pledging a people-driven administration focused on inclusive development, security, and economic growth.

The declaration, held at Yemetu Police Barracks in Ibadan, attracted a large gathering of political leaders, party faithful, traditional stakeholders, and supporters from across the state.

In his address, Alli said his decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, traditional rulers, and citizens across all geopolitical zones. He described the moment as both “a turning point” and “a declaration of purpose,” emphasizing that his ambition is rooted in service rather than personal gain.

“This is not about ambition alone. It is about responsibility, service, and the future and prosperity of the good people of Oyo State,” he said.

Currently representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Alli highlighted his track record in public service, including his tenure as the first democratically elected chairman of Ibadan North Local Government in 1991, as well as his roles as Secretary to the State Government and Chief of Staff in previous administrations.

He noted that these experiences have shaped his governance philosophy, which prioritizes impact, accountability, and grassroots development.

Alli described Oyo State as rich in history, culture, and human capital but in need of renewed leadership to unlock its full potential. He outlined plans to focus on key sectors such as education, security, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.

On education, he expressed concern over declining standards and pledged reforms to promote innovation and sustainable development. “We must plan not just for today, but for generations yet unborn,” he said.

Addressing security, he assured residents that safety would be a top priority, stressing that sustainable development depends on a peaceful environment. He also promised to expand healthcare access, improve infrastructure to better connect rural and urban areas, and strengthen economic activities.

The senator emphasized support for traders, artisans, and small business owners, describing them as the backbone of the state’s economy. He also pledged to create opportunities for youths through entrepreneurship and digital transformation initiatives.

“We will refocus development at the grassroots and ensure that local governments function effectively with real autonomy,” he added.

Alli further outlined plans to revitalize agriculture through modern farming techniques and improved market access, positioning the sector as a key driver of economic growth.

On governance, he promised transparency, accountability, and merit-based civil service reforms, while assuring workers and pensioners of improved welfare and prompt payment of salaries and entitlements.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to gender inclusion, stating that women would play a central role in his administration, alongside active engagement with traditional rulers and community leaders.

Reflecting on past leadership in the state, Alli paid tribute to former governors and political figures, noting his intention to build on their legacies.

He urged residents to see his ambition as a collective journey, calling for unity and shared responsibility in shaping the future of Oyo State.

“I offer myself to you not as a master, but as a servant, tested, prepared, and ready to serve,” he said.

The event was attended by several political figures, including former Deputy Governor Chief Iyiola Oladokun, Engr. Remi Oseni, Senator Yinus Akintunde, and Senator Ayoade Adeseun, among others.
