Institutional Accountability, Legacy Preservation Drive SSASOGA New Tenure Agenda

The Seminary, St. Anne’s School Old Girls’ Association (SSASOGA) has inaugurated its new National Executive officers, with Mrs. Funmilayo Kehinde returned unopposed as National President, at a ceremony held at the school hall, Molete, Ibadan.

The colourful event brought together old students from different generations, trustees, branch chairpersons and invited guests, as nostalgia filled the air with the rendition of the school song by members of the association.

In her welcome address, the National President, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Kehinde, expressed gratitude to members for their steadfast support and commitment to the growth of the association, noting that the last dispensation was marked by stability and purposeful service.

The newly inaugurated officers, took the oath of office, which was commissioned by Hon. Justice (Rtd) Bola Okikiolu-Ighile. The new executives pledged to discharge their duties with integrity, selflessness, and loyalty to the ideals of SSASOGA.

Prof Kunbi Olasope, National Vice President 2; Mrs Taiwo Abidakun, Diaspora Secretary; Mrs Adenike Doherty, National Social Secretary; Mrs Caroline Oke, National Treasurer; Mrs Gbemisola Adepoju, National Secretary General; Mrs Olubunmi Balogun, Assistant National Secretary General; Mrs Adesola Ajani, National Youth coordinator; Mrs Olufunmilayo Akinlotan, National Welfare Secretary; Mrs Adebimpe Fatoki, National Financial Secretary; Mrs Odejoke-Maxwell Ibidun, National Assistant Financial Secretary; Honorable Justice (Rtd) Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, National Legal Adviser; Mrs Tolulope Fagbayila, National Publicity Secretary; Mrs Abiola Otaniyi, National Internal Auditor, among others.
House Captains were also sworn in for the six houses in the school.

Delivering a sermon titled “Platform is for Purpose,” Bishop John Oladele charged the new executives to see leadership as a call to service. He warned against abuse of power, stressing that every position of authority is a privilege granted by grace. According to him, “Platforms are not for pride or personal gain, but for impact. A meaningful life is one lived for others.”

In her acceptance speech, the National President, Mrs. Kehinde described SSASOGA as a duly registered and steadily growing organisation, noting that since 2020 the association has recorded remarkable progress through continuity of leadership and the unwavering support of old girls across the globe.

She highlighted key achievements of the present administration, including the introduction and institutionalization of early-morning coaching classes for senior students, relocation of residents from school hostels and renovation of hostel buildings now repurposed as offices, craft rooms and reading rooms. She also noted the strengthening of SSASOGA’s governance framework, improved collaboration with the Oyo State Ministry of Education.

Mrs. Kehinde further listed legacy projects executed by old girls in recent years, such as the reconstruction of the school gate, installation of solar lights, donation of laboratory equipment, renovation of houses, construction of the Fayemi Vocational Centre, sponsorship of the Queen’s Essay Competition, and capacity-building programmes for teachers.

Unveiling the agenda for the new tenure, the National President said the administration would prioritise the revival of the boarding house system, furnishing of additional reading rooms, development of sporting facilities, youth engagement, and expansion of vocational training for students. She also called on old girls at home and in the diaspora to support the establishment of more international branches, including the ongoing effort in the United States.

Calling for renewed commitment, Mrs. Kehinde urged members who have remained indifferent to join hands in rebuilding the alma mater. “I urge every old student to renew their commitment to our alma mater. We must let go of past grievances, because holding onto grudges only weakens our unity and limits what we can collectively achieve for Saint Anne’s School. Saint Anne’s gave us a strong foundation, and this is the time for us to give back wholeheartedly. Personal differences should not stand in the way of our shared responsibility to support and uplift our alma mater.”

The President appealed to all members to embrace peace, unity, and mutual support, adding that this will help achieve a common goal, “our alma mater stands to benefit immensely.”
