HON. SHERIFF ADEOJO FLAGS OFF FREE HEALTH OUTREACH TO MARK OYO STATE’S GOLDEN JUBILEE

As part of activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of Oyo State, the Executive Chairman of Ido Local Government Area, Hon. Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo, on Tuesday formally flagged off a comprehensive free medical outreach at the Primary Health Care Centre, Ido.

Speaking at the well-attended event, Hon. Adeojo described the outreach as a clear demonstration of the Oyo State Government’s commitment to the health and well-being of its citizens, particularly at the grassroots. He commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his people-centred leadership and sustained investments in the health sector, noting that the golden jubilee celebration goes beyond festivities to delivering meaningful impact to the populace.

The council chairman also applauded the Chairman of the Oyo State at 50 Planning Committee, Hon. Saheed Akinade Fijabi, for his dedication and foresight in ensuring that the anniversary celebration includes programmes that directly improve the quality of life of residents. According to him, the free health outreach reflects the administration’s resolve to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable for all.

“This laudable programme is a testament to our collective commitment to the welfare of our people,” Hon. Adeojo said. “The impressive turnout we are witnessing today shows how much our people value initiatives that touch their lives directly. I want to assure you that the present administration, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, remains fully committed to improving healthcare delivery and ensuring a healthier, more prosperous future for all.”

He urged residents to continue to support the policies and programmes of the state government, stressing that sustained cooperation from the people is vital to achieving lasting development across the state.

The medical outreach was coordinated by Dr. Abiodun Akande of the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, who explained that the exercise was designed to cater to residents of all age groups, including children, adults and the elderly. Services provided included free medical consultations, routine health screenings, blood pressure checks, malaria tests and the distribution of essential drugs.

Dr. Akande used the opportunity to caution residents against self-medication and patronage of unqualified health practitioners, popularly referred to as “quack doctors.” He advised beneficiaries to always seek medical attention at accredited health facilities, stressing that proper diagnosis and treatment are crucial to maintaining good health.

Hundreds of residents benefited from the outreach, which forms part of the health-focused initiatives lined up to mark Oyo State’s 50 years of existence. The programme further underscores the state government’s determination to strengthen primary healthcare services and advance its goal of achieving universal health coverage as a lasting legacy of the golden jubilee celebration.
