Public Education Regaining Trust – Olufade Urges Parents to Enroll Children in Government Schools

The Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, has urged parents to renew their confidence in public education.

He made this appeal during the Catch Them Young Initiative Campaign held on Thursday at Seventh Day Adventist Primary School 1 & 2, Agodi, Ibadan.

Olufade noted that the era of poor administration in public schools has significantly improved under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde since 2019. According to him, the state’s basic education system now reflects a modern version of the visionary model introduced by Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the 1970s.

He commended the Makinde administration for prioritizing education through the provision of teaching materials, improved infrastructure, and the prompt payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities—describing these efforts as unprecedented.

The council chairman also called for greater cooperation from parents in enrolling their children in public schools, assuring that the sector will continue to improve and remain globally competitive.

In her remarks, the Chief Coordinator of Catch Them Young Initiative and Bright Lens Media Networks, Ayodeni Aluko, encouraged pupils to stay focused and committed to achieving their goals.

The event, which attracted parents and school administrators, also featured the inauguration of educational clubs. The newly appointed coordinators include Muhammed Munirat (Health Club), Akinfenwa Michael (Press Club), Adebo Dumininu (JET Club), Nduka Patrick (Environmental Club), Alor Solomon (Quiz & Debate Club), and William Promise (Security).

Other dignitaries present included the Education Secretary of Ibadan North East Local Government, Comrade Adedotun George Olubayo, among others.
