Two Foreign Nationals Die in Crash Involving Anthony Joshua — Ogun Govt

The Ogun State Government has confirmed that two foreign nationals lost their lives in a road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The accident, which occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Monday, happened near the Danco Filling Station in the Makun area, before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound axis. The Lexus Jeep conveying Joshua, with registration number KRD 850 HN, reportedly collided with a stationary truck.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, expressed the government’s condolences to the families, friends and associates of the deceased.

According to Akinmade, the fatal crash took place along the busy expressway within the Makun axis of the state and claimed the lives of two persons on the spot.

“Anthony Joshua and three other individuals were reportedly travelling from Lagos to Sagamu at the time of the incident,” the statement said. “Preliminary reports indicate that two male foreign nationals died instantly. Their remains have been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.”

The statement further disclosed that Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and rushed to a hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.

It added that the sport utility vehicle rammed into a stationary truck along the expressway. While the severely damaged Lexus Jeep has been evacuated to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division (MTD) office, arrangements are ongoing to tow the truck to the same location to aid a thorough investigation.

Describing the incident as deeply unfortunate and painful, the Ogun State Government noted that the loss of lives was devastating, while other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving medical care.

The government urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations, especially during the festive season when traffic volume is typically high. It also called on road safety officers and security agencies to intensify surveillance and enforcement across the state.

“Our hearts go out to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in this tragic incident,” the statement said, while praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased and the speedy recovery of those injured.
