Sheriff Adeojo Hails Governor Seyi Makinde’s Free Health Initiative, Advocates Wider Reach in Ido

The Executive Chairman of Ido Local Government, Hon. Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo, has praised Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for the successful implementation of the state’s free health mission, describing it as a transformative initiative that delivers timely, accessible, and cost-free healthcare services to residents across the Pacesetter State.

He made the commendation during a one-day stakeholders’ meeting focused on high-impact delivery indicators under the IMPACT Project for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (RMNCH), held at the Ido Local Government Hall.

Hon. Adeojo noted that the state-driven IMPACT Project continues to reposition Primary Health Care Centers (PHCs) for more effective grassroots service delivery. According to him, the initiative is significantly contributing to the reduction of infant mortality, expansion of essential health services, renovation of facilities, provision of modern medical equipment, strengthened immunization efforts, improved malaria control, and enhanced child survival strategies.
Implemented in partnership with the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board (OYOPHCB), the project also promotes 24-hour healthcare services, emergency response systems, drug revolving schemes, and active community participation through Ward Development Committees to ensure accountability, sustainability, and feedback.

In Ido Local Government, the IMPACT Project is currently operational in eight health facilities: Akinware Health Center, Akufo Health Center, Alada Health Center, Ido Primary Health Center, Ilaju Primary Health Center, Kogue Health Post, Ladunni Health Center, and Omi Adio Health Center.
As part of the programme, awards were presented to outstanding facilities for the third quarter of 2025 based on key performance indicators, including deliveries conducted by skilled birth attendants, full immunization coverage for children under one year, IPT3P and Penta 3 vaccinations, Rapid Diagnostic Testing (RDT) for fever cases among under-fives, ACT treatment for confirmed uncomplicated malaria, postnatal visits within 48–72 hours after delivery, and distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) to pregnant women.

Omi Adio Health Center emerged as the top-performing PHC in Ido, recording the highest number of fully immunized children under one year and leading in IPT3P and Penta 3 vaccination coverage.
While formally presenting the award received from IMPACT representative Mr. Yemisi Oyediran, Hon. Adeojo commended the remarkable achievements recorded under the initiative and called for its expansion to more facilities within the local government area. He later handed the award to Matron Sakirat Ayodele and the Ward Development Committee Chairman, Pastor Egbedokun Solomon, applauding the facility’s dedication and urging other centers to replicate its success.
The Chairman further praised the Ward Development Committees for intensifying awareness of Governor Makinde’s free healthcare programmes.
“Our people must continue to see and feel the impact of these initiatives. The Governor has demonstrated genuine commitment to their wellbeing, and we must ensure the message reaches every household,” he stated.
The meeting also observed a minute of silence in honour of the late Supervisory Councilor for Health, Hon. Adesina Adegbenga. Participants reviewed performance strategies and discussed measures to strengthen both high- and low-performing facilities.
Among dignitaries present were the Head of Local Government Administration, Alhaji Sarafadeen Aminu; the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Justina Orimoloye; and Mr. Oladosu Vincent of Ido PHC, alongside other key stakeholders.
