The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has secured a significant victory in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency By-election, with its candidate, Hon. Fólajimi Oyekunle, emerging as the winner. The triumph has been met with congratulations from Ambassador Abdulsabur Abiola Olawore, a prominent Ibadan Mogaji and a hopeful PDP gubernatorial aspirant for 2027.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially announced the results, confirming that Hon. Oyekunle, popularly known as “Don,” garnered a commanding 18,404 votes. He defeated his main challenger, Hon. Adewale Olatunji (also known as “Murphy”) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 8,312 votes.
In a statement released following the declaration of results, Ambassador Olawore lauded the victory as a testament to the people’s trust and confidence in the PDP. He specifically commended the leadership of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, stating that the governor’s focus on good governance and grassroots development was a key factor in the party’s landslide win.
“This victory demonstrates the people’s confidence in Governor Makinde’s progressive leadership and the collective will of Ibadan North residents to continue enjoying purposeful governance,” Ambassador Olawore said.
Ambassador Olawore, who serves as a representative for the United Nations International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), also urged the newly elected lawmaker to live up to the mandate given to him. He called on Hon. Oyekunle to deliver on his campaign promises and prioritize the welfare of his constituents.
The by-election was held to fill the vacant seat for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, and the results are widely seen as a reflection of the current political landscape and the popularity of the incumbent state government.
