Oyo State Inaugurates Committee to Fast-Track Multi-Million-Dollar Agro-Industrial Project

The Oyo State Government inaugurates a State Steering Committee to oversee the implementation of the multi-million-dollar Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) project. The initiative which is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), aims to transform agriculture into a competitive, industrialized sector, so as to create jobs and strengthen food security across the state.
Oyo is one of the seven pioneer locations selected for the project’s first phase. During the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Debo Akande, Chairman of the committee, highlighted the project’s potential to revolutionize the local economy.
“This project has the capacity to radically transform the economy and improve the livelihoods of countless residents across Oyo State,” said Dr. Akande, he went further to also praise Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership in securing the state’s participation. “With the AfDB’s support, we are positioned to become a hub for agro-industrial activity, generating jobs and enhancing competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.”
The SAPZ program is a key part of Nigeria’s agricultural strategy to reduce dependence on imported food. The Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA) will serve as the implementing agency, ensuring strong linkages between local farmers and agro-allied industries. With its official launch, the program is expected to drive inclusive economic growth and solidify Oyo State’s role as a major player in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
