Oyo State Fire Services Agency Averts Fire Outbreak in Saki

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Saki Zonal Command, on Monday averted what could have been a major fire disaster at Abímbólá Layout along Ogbooro Road, Saki.

The incident was reported at exactly 9:20 a.m. on February 23, 2026, through a distress call by a concerned resident and Mr. Adewusi Adewumi, alerting authorities to a fire outbreak at a residential building in the area.

Officers of the agency, led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Ayegbokiki, were immediately deployed to the scene. On arrival, the team discovered that the fire had engulfed the kitchen of a three-bedroom flat.
The firefighters swiftly swung into action, successfully containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

No casualty was recorded in the incident.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a gas leakage in the kitchen, which ignited and affected parts of the apartment. Officials disclosed that only a section of the building was impacted, while properties worth millions of naira were salvaged due to the prompt intervention of the fire service personnel.

The firefighting appliance returned to the station at about 10:03 a.m., after ensuring the area was safe, and the officers resumed operational standby.
In his reaction, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, advised residents to adhere strictly to safety guidelines, particularly during the dry season.
He warned against improper storage of combustible materials, noting that overheating and gas leakages are common triggers of fire outbreaks during hot weather conditions. He also emphasised the importance of installing fire extinguishers in homes and commercial buildings to enable immediate response before the arrival of emergency services.
Residents were urged to promptly report fire incidents and provide accurate addresses through the agency’s emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or the toll-free number 615.
