Oyo assembly member, Fowokanmi joins Oyo South senatorial district race

The member representing Ibadan Southwest constituency 2 at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Oluwafowokanmi Adebayo, on Tuesday joined the race for the Oyo South senatorial election.

Declaring his ambition on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, the lawmaker said he was poised to give the senatorial district a better and quality representation.

According to the Chairman of the house committee on tertiary education, the senatorial district, since the inception of the present republic in 1999 has not had the opportunity of being represented by someone that is experienced in the art of lawmaking.

He however said with his experience in the house of assembly in the last seven years, he was ready to represent the district adequately and also ensure that the people of the nine local government areas that make up the district would be better fo it.

He said, “We need a functional representative that will start working in the very first month, over the years the people will send to the Senate from this district take time to learn the legislative tasks because they are strangers and we have not been fortunate to have a ranking senator since the inception of the fourth republic.

“By the time the are set to be delivering to the people they will be changed after they have spent over two years to learn the legislative art, the third year is for politics, but if we have somebody that is already experienced from the house of assembly to represent our people at the upper chamber the effect will be massive.

“There are so many laws that need to be amended by the upper chamber that need an experience legislator to take the step, like the law that established the NYSC, it needs to be reviewed due to the contemporary security situation in the country, I believe that the experience I have acquired will aid that and give us a sound and functional legislature in Oyo South senatorial district

Adebayo added that he would use the opportunity to build on the legacy and achievements of the State governor, Engr Seyi Makinde and further contribute to the development of the senatorial district.

How however said he had already commenced consultation with leaders of the PDP from the district with the aim of gaining their support to make his ambition a reality.
