NYCN Oyo State Holds Pivotal 2025 Elective Congress Tuesday

The political spotlight turns to Oyo State this Tuesday, September 30, as the Oyo State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) holds its much-anticipated 2025 State Elective Congress — a landmark event set to shape the future of youth leadership across the state.

The congress, themed “Local Youth Action for the SDGs and Beyond,” will convene at Western Hall, Oyo State Secretariat, Ibadan, bringing together youth leaders, stakeholders, and delegates from all corners of the state.

Delegates will cast their votes to elect a new slate of state executives who will steer the council through its next administrative phase. Key positions up for grabs include State Chairman, Secretary, and other influential roles within the council’s leadership structure.

Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, described the congress as a critical test of youth leadership and grassroots democratic participation.

“The congress will not only reflect the democratic spirit of the NYCN but also serve as a litmus test for youth participation in governance and leadership at the grassroots level,” Falana said.

Ahead of the congress, the NYCN State Electoral Committee — through a statement issued by Opeyemi Rasheed Socrates, Head of the Media Unit at the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development — assured stakeholders of a transparent, credible, and peaceful electoral process. The committee emphasized its commitment to fairness, unity, and integrity in line with the council’s constitution.

With several young aspirants actively canvassing for support and engaging in last-minute consultations, expectations are high. Civil society observers and representatives from relevant government agencies are also expected to be on ground to monitor proceedings and ensure adherence to electoral guidelines.

As the countdown begins, the atmosphere is charged with anticipation. Youth leaders and stakeholders alike are hopeful that the outcome will further strengthen youth representation in governance, bolster the NYCN’s impact, and advance youth-driven development in Oyo State and beyond.
