Mid-Term: Catch Them Young Initiative Commends Makinde Over Free Common Entrance Registration

Coordinators of the Catch Them Young Initiative have commended Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for approving free registration for the state’s common entrance examination, describing the move as a major relief for parents and guardians.

The group gave the commendation on Thursday while speaking with journalists in Ibadan, noting that the policy reflects the administration’s continued commitment to strengthening the education sector.

Chief Coordinator of the Initiative and Bright Lens Media Network, Mrs. Ayodeni Aluko, said the decision to fund the registration exercise would ease financial pressure on families and encourage wider participation among eligible pupils.
She stated that the Makinde-led administration has consistently prioritised education as a foundation for sustainable development.

According to her, improvements recorded in the state’s education sector in recent years have contributed to a reduction in the number of out-of-school children.
Aluko highlighted ongoing reforms, including infrastructural upgrades in primary schools, recruitment of nearly 18,000 teachers over the past seven years, expansion of e-learning initiatives and the sustenance of free education policies.

“These interventions have improved the learning environment and stimulated pupils’ interest in formal education,” she said.
She urged pupils preparing for the common entrance examination to remain focused and committed to their studies in order to secure a brighter and independent future.
The group also commended the management of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, led by Dr. Nureni Adeniran, for intensified supervision of public primary schools across the state, describing the effort as instrumental to improved teacher dedication and accountability.
Aluko further called on parents and guardians to complement government efforts by supporting teachers and encouraging their children to take their studies seriously.
She advised pupils to shun laziness and social vices, stressing that discipline and dedication remain key to academic success.
