Ido LG Chairman Convenes Security Summit to Tackle Reckless Driving at Ido T-Junction

The Executive Chairman of Ido Local Government, Hon. Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo, has convened a stakeholders’ security meeting to address growing concerns over road safety and curb reckless driving along major roads within the council area, particularly at the busy Ido T-junction.

The meeting, held at the Ido Local Government Secretariat, brought together representatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Police Mobile Squad (PMS), as well as leaders of transport unions, including okada (motorcycle) riders, maruwa (tricycle) operators, Micra drivers and tipper drivers.

Discussions at the meeting focused on the persistent cases of speeding, overloading, indiscriminate parking and disregard for traffic regulations, which have reportedly resulted in several accidents at the Ido T-junction, especially around the market axis.

Addressing participants, Hon. Adeojo issued a stern warning to road users, particularly maruwa operators, against parking or picking passengers indiscriminately on major roads. He directed transport operators to make use of designated garages, stressing that enforcement would henceforth be stricter.

“Any vehicle found parking or loading passengers at the T-junction in front of the Ido Garage will be apprehended and sanctioned with a fine of ₦30,000,” the chairman warned, adding that the measure was aimed at restoring order and safeguarding lives.

Commending the initiative, the FRSC Unit Commander, Mr. J. Gbenga-Oke, assured of intensified patrols, improved traffic monitoring and sustained public enlightenment campaigns to promote safe driving practices. Leaders of the various transport unions also pledged to ensure self-regulation among their members and to report erring drivers and riders to the appropriate authorities.

The local government expressed optimism that the resolutions reached at the meeting would yield visible improvements in road safety within weeks, while urging all road users to comply with traffic rules and cooperate with enforcement agencies.

Dignitaries at the meeting included the Ido Local Government PDP Chairman, Chief Musibau Emiola; the Head of Local Government Administration, Alhaji Sarafadeen Aminu; the Director of Administration and General Services, Mrs. Titi Adeshina, and other key officials.
