CRIN Staff Escape Attack as Police Rescue One Kidnap Victim in Oyo

Panic gripped staff of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN), Idi-Ayunre, on Tuesday as suspected bandits launched an attack on the area, forcing several workers to flee for safety.

Some of the staff, who narrowly escaped the нападение, recounted how they ran into nearby bushes and safe locations as gunmen struck, creating confusion and fear within the community.

The incident is believed to be connected to the abduction of four persons in the area, prompting swift security intervention.

The Oyo State Police Command has since confirmed the rescue of one of the kidnapped victims, while efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining three.

Police sources disclosed that the rescued victim was freed during a coordinated operation involving the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Idi-Ayunre Division, and other operatives.

The Command also confirmed that the victim’s vehicle has been recovered.

In response, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, alongside other tactical teams, to reinforce officers on ground and intensify operations in the area.

Security personnel have since launched an extensive bush combing exercise to track down the attackers and rescue the remaining victims.

It was gathered that operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, local divisional officers, and other tactical squads are actively involved in the ongoing operation.

The rescued victim is currently in safe custody and undergoing debriefing to provide useful information that may aid the rescue of others still in captivity.

The Police Command assured residents of its commitment to restoring calm and ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Further developments are expected as security operations continue in the area.
