Akika Debunks Makinde’s Exit Speculation, Supports INEC Voter Registration

‎‎A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State and close ally of Governor Seyi Makinde, Agba’Akin Benedict Akika, popularly known as “Benee,” has dismissed as unfounded the rumor that the governor is planning to defect from the PDP to another political party.

‎Akika described the speculation as false and misleading, urging party members and the general public to disregard it. He stressed that Governor Makinde remains fully committed to the PDP and its ideals.

‎The PDP stalwart made this clarification during the 2026 New Year Get-Together of the Omituntun Benedict Forum (OBF), held on Sunday at Omituntun House, Akobo–Olorunda, in Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.

‎Addressing members of the forum and party faithful at the event, Akika emphasized that Governor Makinde continues to be the backbone of the PDP in Oyo State, noting that his leadership has strengthened the party’s structure and popularity across the state.

‎He further stated that the PDP in Oyo State remains strong, united, and focused, adding that the party is already positioning itself strategically ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎According to Akika, rumours of defection are often sponsored by political opponents seeking to distract the party, assuring members that there is no crisis within the PDP leadership in the state.

‎In a show of support for grassroots mobilization and democratic participation, Akika announced that he would personally cover the transportation costs for 20 members of the Omituntun Benedict Forum everyday to enable them to participate in the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Oyo State.

‎He explained that the initiative was aimed at encouraging eligible citizens, particularly party members, to register and be adequately prepared to exercise their civic rights during future elections.

‎Akika also urged members of the OBF to remain active within the party by consistently attending PDP ward meetings and other official party gatherings, stressing that unity and participation at the grassroots level are key to electoral success.

‎The event was well attended by prominent party figures, including the Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government Area, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen, and Hon. Adebayo Babajide Gabriel, the member representing Ibadan North II Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly.

‎Other notable PDP stakeholders and leaders were also present, alongside thousands of enthusiastic members of the Omituntun Benedict Forum, who turned out in large numbers to usher in the New Year.

‎The Get-Together Party featured goodwill messages, music, dance, and various forms of entertainment, as well as side attractions and sumptuous meals, creating a lively atmosphere that reflected unity, celebration, and renewed commitment to the PDP’s vision in Oyo State.
