Oyo to Feature World Headdress Celebration in Vibing December Activities

The Oyo State Government is set to incorporate the third edition of the Annual World Headdress Celebration into activities lined up for its Vibing December project, following a commitment by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun.

The commissioner gave the indication on Thursday, October 22, 2026, when he received the leadership of the Ọmọ Yorùbá Àtàtà Socio-cultural Initiative (ỌYÀSI), organisers of the annual cultural event, during a courtesy visit in Ibadan.

The third edition of the celebration is scheduled for Monday, December 28, 2026, at the Single Tennis Court, Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

Olatunbosun described the initiative as laudable and promised his total support towards ensuring that the event achieved remarkable success.

His proposed inclusion of the celebration in Vibing December is expected to provide an additional platform for promoting cultural heritage and exposing the initiative to a wider audience.

Vibing December, an Oyo State project introduced in 2025, is designed to feature activities during the festive period. The commissioner’s commitment offers an opportunity to connect the World Headdress Celebration with the state’s broader cultural and tourism programming.

The Chairman of ỌYÀSI, Mr Olawale Ajao, welcomed the commissioner’s commitment and expressed gratitude for his continued support for the initiative since it began in 2024.

Ajao said Olatunbosun had demonstrated considerable commitment to cultural development and described him as an active and accomplished public servant.

He also recalled the commissioner’s contributions during his time in the Ministry of Information, saying his work had left a lasting legacy in the ministry.

The ỌYÀSI chairman added that the commissioner’s achievements in the culture and tourism sector deserved commendation.

Earlier, the General Manager of the Council for Arts and Culture, Mr Sikiru Adekunle Agboola, said the ministry was committed to encouraging individuals and groups with creative ideas by providing opportunities for them to express and develop their initiatives.

The visiting delegation, led by Ajao, included Saheed Alatise, Nurudeen Adeyemi Olorire, Latifat Adejoke Adebola, Ethan Abanikannda, Boluwaji Olaniyi and Bejide Oladimeji.

The commissioner’s team included senior officials of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, directors, tourism officers and members of the Baker Asa Crew.

The World Headdress Celebration was established by ỌYÀSI to promote the preservation, documentation and global appreciation of headdresses as significant elements of cultural identity.

The proposed inclusion in Vibing December would further strengthen efforts to position the event as part of Oyo State’s cultural tourism calendar, subject to the implementation of the commissioner’s commitment.
