2027: ACCORD Reaffirms Busari as Oyo Governorship Candidate, Dismisses Rival Claims

The Oyo State chapter of the ACCORD has reaffirmed Hon. Kunle Busari, popularly known as Guudu Guudu, as its authentic governorship candidate for the 2027 general election, insisting that the party’s leadership and candidates remain intact despite alleged attempts by some individuals to take over its structure.

The declaration, which effectively dismisses any claim by broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat or any other aspirant to the party’s governorship ticket, was made during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Oyo State Working Committee in Ibadan.

The meeting, chaired by the State Chairman, Prince Kolade Ojo, and the State Secretary, Hon. Olayinka Dairo, was attended by local government chairmen from the 33 councils, state executive members and other party stakeholders. Also present were the National Secretary of ACCORD, Hon. (Dr.) Adebukola Ajaja, and the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Kunle Busari.

In a statement jointly signed by Ojo and Dairo, the party said the meeting was organised to strengthen internal unity, review political developments, assess mobilisation efforts across the state and strategise ahead of the 2027 elections.

Addressing the stakeholders, Ajaja urged members not to be distracted by what she described as desperate moves by individuals seeking to hijack the party for personal political ambition.

She maintained that the party’s leadership remained intact and that the candidates produced through its primaries remained the authentic candidates recognised by the party.

“Let me assure you that those behind these distractions will be surprised when the Independent National Electoral Commission publishes the authentic list of candidates for the elections,” she said.

Ajaja reaffirmed that Busari remained the party’s duly nominated governorship candidate in Oyo State and appealed to members to sustain grassroots mobilisation in support of all ACCORD candidates.

Speaking at the meeting, Busari urged members to intensify mobilisation across communities, assuring them that campaign materials would soon be distributed to all the 33 local government areas.

“We shall provide everything you need to canvass support for ACCORD when campaigns begin in earnest,” he said.

Busari added that electoral victory would be determined by effective planning and grassroots engagement rather than political rhetoric, expressing confidence that the party was on course to achieve success in the 2027 polls.

Earlier, the State Chairman, Prince Kolade Ojo, called on members to remain united, disciplined and committed to expanding the party’s support base, expressing optimism that ACCORD was well-positioned to take over governance in Oyo State.

The State Secretary, Hon. Olayinka Dairo, commended members of the State Executive Committee, particularly the State Treasurer, Hon. Nurudeen Okunola, and party leaders, including Alhaji Sulaiman Aleshinloye of Ibadan South-East Local Government, for their loyalty and commitment to the party.

The meeting also received reports from chairmen across the 33 local government areas, who highlighted ongoing grassroots mobilisation and expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the 2027 governorship election.
