APC Reps Primaries Hold Smoothly in Oyo as 74 Aspirants Scale Screening

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed the conduct of its House of Representatives primary elections in Oyo State as peaceful, transparent and well-organised, revealing that 74 aspirants were cleared to participate in the exercise across the state’s 14 federal constituencies.
Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee in Oyo State, Prof. Mojeed Alabi, disclosed this on Saturday while briefing journalists at the party secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
Alabi, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, said the exercise was conducted without violence or major disagreements, adding that the process complied with the party’s guidelines.
According to him, the APC National Secretariat approved 74 aspirants to contest in the House of Representatives primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Seventy-four aspirants were cleared by the National Secretariat. We do not have details of those who were not cleared,” he said.
The committee chairman explained that members of the panel were deployed across the federal constituencies to supervise the elections, monitor compliance, collate results and forward reports to the party’s national leadership.
“Our responsibility is to oversee the exercise, ensure due process is followed, collate results and submit our findings to the National Secretariat, which has the authority to announce the final outcome,” Alabi stated.
He clarified that the primaries were held simultaneously across wards within the constituencies rather than at a single central venue, stressing that the committee was not set up to entertain complaints or petitions.
“We are not stationed in one location because the elections are taking place across the constituencies. Our job is strictly supervisory and administrative,” he added.
Alabi reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to fairness and transparency, noting that the exercise was conducted impartially despite logistical challenges.
“We are determined to ensure fairness, transparency and credibility throughout the process,” he said.
He also urged dissatisfied aspirants to channel their grievances through the party’s appeals process, noting that all disputes arising from the primaries would be addressed by the appropriate committee.
The APC chieftain maintained that the smooth conduct of the exercise demonstrated the party’s commitment to internal democracy and effective preparations for the 2027 polls.
Earlier, Oyo State APC Chairman, Moses Adeyemo, commended the election committee for ensuring a peaceful process and appealed to party members to embrace outcomes that would strengthen unity within the party.
