2027: Ibadan Daughter Folashade Alao (A.k.a. Iya Ido) Joins Ido/Ibarapa East Reps Race, Meets PDP State Exco, Pledges Quality Representation

Hon. Folashade Elizabeth Alao, a Peoples Democratic Party aspirant fondly known by many as IYA IDO on Tuesday formally declared her intention to contest the Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency seat, in the 2027 general elections.

The declaration was made during a courtesy visit to the Oyo State PDP Executive Committee in Ibadan. She was received by the State Chairman, Prof. Abdulrahman Akinoso.

Also in attendance were State Women Leader Alhaja Latifa Lateef, State Financial Secretary Hon. Adekunle Olatinwo, Hon. Akeem Adeleke State youths leader, State Treasurer Prince Adediran, Oyo South Senatorial Chairman Chief Biliaminu Muraina, Oyo Central Senatorial Chairman Hon. Adewusi Adegbola, Oyo North Senatorial Chairman Hon. Yekini Adebisi, State Ex-Officio Hon. Kabir Odeyemi, and other members of the committee.

Alao, a grassroots mobilizer from Ward 06 in Ido Local Government Area, said the visit followed extensive consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across Ido and Ibarapa East LGAs. She said her decision was driven by calls from constituents for stronger, people-focused representation at the National Assembly.

An Ibadan indigene, Alao hails from Okose village in Ido LGA and traces her ancestry to Ile Laogun, Ibikunle Compound, Ibadan North-West. She described herself as a “true daughter of Ibadan soil” with ties to rural and urban communities in the constituency.

Addressing the Exco, Alao emphasized her long-standing loyalty to the PDP. She recalled contesting for the same seat in 2019 and disclosed that party leaders in both Ido and Ibarapa East LGAs had appealed to her to step down for Hon. Yemi Taiwo. Alao said she complied with the leaders’ appeal in the interest of party cohesion and unity.

The aspirant pledged to prioritize improved livelihoods, women and youth empowerment, and effective federal representation if nominated and elected. Alao assured party leaders that she would uphold the PDP’s values and deliver on campaign promises to constituents.

In his response, Prof. Akinoso praised Alao’s consistency, resilience, and commitment to the party. He urged all aspirants to conduct their campaigns with decorum and work toward party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
