Governor Makinde Reiterates PDP Commitment, Unveils Consensus Plan for Candidate Selection

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has restated his allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), affirming that he and his supporters will, for now, remain within the party.

He made this position clear on Monday while speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the state secretariat, against the backdrop of growing speculation over potential defections and shifting political alliances.

Makinde announced that the party in the state would adopt a consensus-driven method in selecting its candidates for forthcoming elections. He explained that the approach is designed to promote internal harmony and reduce the tensions often associated with primary contests.

The governor also disclosed that first-term elected officials, both at the National Assembly and the State House of Assembly, will be granted automatic return tickets, enabling them to contest for re-election without internal opposition.

According to him, the resolutions were reached after extensive consultations with party stakeholders and are intended to reinforce unity, ensure stability, and position the party for success in future elections.
