Liberty Is Secured at the Ballot Box, Not by Silence — Akeem Salawu

Citizen liberty is never sustained by silence, indifference or unquestioning loyalty. It endures only when citizens summon the courage to think critically and make conscious choices at the ballot box. Every election presents a defining moment of collective power—a point at which the people determine whether freedom will be strengthened or diminished.

When voters opt for better leadership, they are doing far more than selecting names on a ballot. They are asserting their rights, insisting on accountability, and setting the moral and ethical tone of governance. In this sense, the ballot is not a mere piece of paper; it is a peaceful yet potent instrument through which injustice can be confronted, failed leadership corrected, and the direction of society reshaped.

Democracy truly flourishes when citizens recognise that voting is not a ceremonial act to be performed out of habit, but a solemn civic duty. A society that votes with conscience, clarity and conviction lays the foundation for institutions that respect individual freedoms, uphold human dignity and create opportunities for all.
