₦1.5bn YEAP-SAFER Disbursement: Adebowale Falana, Chairman Oyo Agency for Youth Salutes Gov. Makinde’s Commitment to Youth Development

The Oyo State Agency for Youth Development has commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde FNSE, GSSRS, for his unwavering commitment to youth empowerment following the disbursement of ₦1.5 billion to young beneficiaries under the Youth Entrepreneurs in Agriculture Programme/Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (YEAP-SAfER) initiative.

The commendation was conveyed by the Chairman of the Agency, Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, who spoke on behalf of youth constituencies across the state, describing the initiative as a bold and impactful intervention aimed at strengthening economic inclusion and reducing youth unemployment.

Falana noted that the Makinde administration has consistently demonstrated a strategic focus on youth development, adding that the YEAP-SAFER programme represents a significant milestone in efforts to reposition agriculture as a viable and profitable venture for young people.

The disbursement ceremony, held today, marked the official kick-off of the initiative and took place at the Oyo State Agribusiness Transformation Centre, Fasola, with key stakeholders in attendance, including government officials, development partners, and beneficiaries.

According to the Agency, a total of 1,000 youths are set to benefit from the programme, each receiving ₦1.5 million to support their agribusiness ventures. The beneficiaries were selected from participants who had earlier undergone intensive, state-sponsored agricultural training.

The training, conducted at CSS Integrated Farms in Nasarawa State, equipped the youths with modern farming techniques, agribusiness management skills, and knowledge of value-chain development necessary for sustainable productivity.

Falana emphasized that the combination of training and financial support underscores the government’s holistic approach to empowerment, ensuring that beneficiaries are not only funded but also adequately prepared to succeed.

He further highlighted the importance of partnerships in driving development, noting that the YEAP-SAFER initiative is being implemented in collaboration with First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and the Mastercard Foundation.

Describing the initiative as timely, the Youth Agency boss stated that it aligns with broader efforts to stimulate economic recovery, enhance food security, and create employment opportunities across the state.

Falana also expressed optimism that the beneficiaries would serve as catalysts for agricultural transformation, contributing meaningfully to local economies and inspiring other youths to embrace agribusiness.

He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, stressing the need for accountability, innovation, and dedication in order to maximize the opportunities provided.

The Agency reaffirmed its continued support for youth-focused policies and programmes, pledging to work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure the success and sustainability of the initiative.

Stakeholders at the event praised the state government for prioritizing youth development, describing the YEAP-SAFER programme as a model for inclusive governance and sustainable empowerment.
With the disbursement now underway, expectations are high that the initiative will significantly boost agricultural productivity, reduce unemployment, and further consolidate Oyo State’s position as a leader in youth-driven development.
